CHAPTER ONE.

Naashi walked home from school, his short, blue hair, ruffling with each step.
He felt someone jump on his back, knocking him over. “Naashi-chan~!”
His girlfriend Shinabi had tackled him again.
“Shinabi-chan, how many times in one day do you have to do this?”
“You know it’s because I love you Naashi-chan! That means that whenever I see you, I have to hug you!” He sighed, “that’s not really a hug, you know. Why can’t we just like, hang out and see movies, like normal people do?” She smiled, “because we’re a special couple!” And hugged him again, shoving her dark gray hair into his face.
By the time he was able to walk her home and convince her that she would see him tomorrow, it was getting dark.
“Jeez…that girl, why wouldn’t she see me tomorrow? I mean, we go to the same school, same clubs, same everything!
When he arrived at the train station, his ride was gone. ”Damn…what am I going to do? The next one isn’t for two hours! Well,” he thought. ”I could wait for the next train, try and walk home without getting mugged, or spend the night at Shii-chan’s house. My mom will kill me, but it’s the best option.” he started walking, “I guess I’ll go back to Shii-chan’s house…”
Twenty minutes later, as he turned the corner onto Shinabi’s street, multicolored flashing lights lit up the sky, and sirens filled the air. His mind raced, “What could have happened? Murder? Arson? Something worse?
He started running.
As he got closer, he saw the police talking with Shinabi’s mom. He didn’t see shinabi anywhere, so he stopped one of the policemen. “Hey, Oji-san, what happened here?” He asked. “Sorry kid, but I can’t tell you that. It’s classified information.” After looking at Naashi for a few seconds, he turned and walked away.
His fear intensified, Naashi opened the front door and looked around.
“Shii-chan? Are you there?” He called, with no answer.
He finally found her hiding under her bed, crying. “Shinabi! What’s going on?” He asked her franticly. “Naashi?…It’s m-my dad, he-he’s d-d-dead!” She sobbed. “Dead? How? What happened?” He asked. “Well, he j-just went to w-work last week a-and never came b-back. T-they found his b-body today, but they said w-we couldn’t s-see him…That it would be t-too traumatic. I thought h-he just had to w-work extra-late. Bu-but…” With that, she started crying again.

He finally convinced her to come out from under the bed and calm down. As she sat next to him, she fell asleep with her arms around his neck, her eyes red from crying.
Naashi sat awake next to her, waiting until the flashing lights faded, then lifted her up onto her bed and went downstairs.
Shinabi’s mom was not there. “The police must have taken her in for questioning.” He thought.
He looked at the clock, it read: 01:04 AM. “Well, I guess its not too late to call my mom…” he picked up the telephone and dialed the number.
“Hello? Naashi-chan, is that you?” his mom answered, sounding concerned.
“Hi mom. Yeah, it’s me.”
“Where are you?! Do you know how late it is?”
“I’m at Shinabi-chan’s house, I’m going to spend the night here.”
“Why, what happened?”
“Well…” He then explained all that had happened that evening, leaving out the fact the Shinabi’s mom was gone. (He knew his mother would not approve of him staying there without an adult.)
“Why, that’s terrible! Who would do such a thing?!”
“They don’t know…They haven’t ruled out murder, but it’s too messy for a suicide.”
“Well then, yes, its fine, you can stay over, but I want you to stay safe and come home tomorrow.”
“Okay, I’ll pick some food up at the store, it’s pretty late, but I think they’re open all night.”
“No, I don’t want you going out tonight.” His mother said sternly.
“But why no-”
“Because I don’t want you out this late after what happened…” she said, now sounding fearful.
“Fine, I’ll stay here.”
“Good, now, go to bed.”
“Okay mom, I’ll see you tomorrow.”
“Goodbye.”
Naashi hung the telephone up and headed upstairs.
As he neared Shinabi’s room, he heard her screaming.
He ran to the door and was horrified at what he saw, Shinabi was there, but she had no arms up to her elbows, she was missing both her eyes and instead of legs, she had long rusty metal spikes.
Naashi felt as if a huge weight had fallen onto his chest as she turned her head to face him, and he started screaming as well.
